Dónal Kearney is a singer from Warrenpoint, Co. Down. As a boy, he learned to perform in Irish-language choir Cór Caisleán Ruairí under Siubhán Ó'Dubháin and later toured professionally with ANÚNA across Asia, North America and Europe (he ended up recording as a soloist on soundtracks for Nintendo and World of Warcraft).
As a performer, Dónal is inspired by the traditional songs of Ulster and sings in Irish and English. He writes and performs with alt-folk trio TRÚ, whose debut album "No Fixed Abode" was nominated for the Northern Ireland Music Prize 2021 and ranked in MOJO's Top 10 Folk Albums of 2021 (”A distinctive, atmospheric debut” - The Guardian). TRÚ's second album (due 2023) fuses the love poetry of Robert Burns with epic sean-nós songs and mixes medieval murder ballads with hints of country and Americana.
Dónal is currently writing "The Myth of Europa", a folk opera inspired by Celtic and Greek mythology and traditional Irish melodies. He is co-founder of the Irish Institute of Music and Song, a community-based arts organisation in Balbriggan and also co-founded Skerries Folk Club.
