Elena is a visual artist - from Dublin, but currently based in Cavan - who a few short years ago turned onto a musical path. Her distinctive voice with its rich, deep tones draws in and captivates audiences along with songs and their beguiling tales. Some draw on folklore, others tell stories of love and loss or imagined happenings. Many songs also reference the natural world reflecting Elena’s love of animals and nature. All entice listeners through a window into another world. Musical inspirations include folk and torch songs, sean nós, indie-folk, and Tin Pan Alley jazz and they range from those with a driving beat to those that are slow and mesmeric with repeated hypnotic elements. The songs are performed for the most part on guitar and ukulele, but at times on stick dulcimer or banjo. Elena’s releases thus far have had radio play across the Ireland and the UK. She was a semi-finalist, then finalist in the Forestside +45 Songwriting competition in 2019 and 2020 and undertook a songwriting residency in Crete, Greece courtesy of The Arts Council of Ireland in 2020. Elena’s musical explorations and interest in recording music led to recent studies during lockdown in audio engineering (distinction) and music production. This advanced knowledge is currently being put to good use in creating her debut album which will be titled ‘In the Beginning’.
