Peggy Seeger

Peggy Seeger is a pioneering figure in folk music, internationally recognised as a singer, songwriter, and activist whose work has helped shape the modern folk revival. Born into the legendary Seeger family, she has spent more than seven decades performing, recording, and advancing traditional and contemporary songs of social justice, feminism, and cultural memory. Her influence spans continents, with a legacy that includes over 25 solo albums, countless collaborations, and songs such as “I’m Gonna Be an Engineer,” which became an anthem for the women’s movement worldwide.

Peggy’s connection to Ireland and the UK folk community runs deep, and her contributions to preserving oral tradition and elevating folk as a vital contemporary art form remain unmatched.

In 2024, Peggy Seeger joined Your Roots Are Showing (YRAS) as a Keynote Speaker, where she delivered a deeply resonant and reflective address that explored the intersection of heritage, community, and artistic responsibility. Her keynote set the tone for the conference—thoughtful, intergenerational, and rooted in the belief that music is both cultural inheritance and a powerful tool for transformation.
