Whistle

Ireland

Whistle is a lively and fun band who play Americana-style music, mixing original songs with a diverse catalogue of covers. The band specialise in multi-part vocal harmonies and they play guitar, banjo, violin, bass, mandolin and more.

Whistle was formed by Jerome Corby and Des Walsh in 2005, initially as a duo but eventually building into a full band. Carl Lombard joined shortly afterwards and these three members have been the core of the band ever since. While initially there were several lineup changes, the addition of Andy Slowey on Bass in 2013 and Enid Conaghan on Fiddle in 2014 has led to a stable, consistent and tight band. Andy and Enid are both full time working musicians and bring a high standard of professionalism to the band.

Whistle have extensive gigging experience playing in venues big and small all over Ireland. they have played in almost every county over the years and made many friends and fans along the way. Their ability to adapt their sets to suit the venue, the crowd, or the event has really helped them go down well wherever they play.
Whistle have also appeared at many festivals across the country, and festivals are perhaps their favourite venues to play. They have appeared twice at Electric Picnic and played at the Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival for the past seven years. Other festivals played include Cahirsiveen Mountain Roots Festival, Kilkenny Roots Festival, Donard Bluegrass BBQ, Howth Roots and Blues Fest, Le Cheile Festival, Fireside Festival, Glendalough Arts Festival, amongst a host of others.
Other notable events include headlining a Garden Party hosted by President Higgins and his wife Sabine, Dunlaoire and SDCC Summer Live music shows and our regular sold-out gigs at the Cobblestone and Briody's bars in Dublin. Whistle have also been performers at several weddings, and a large number of private parties - their upbeat, uptempo music is ideal for dancing to!

Our band members also write songs, and around half of any set list can now comprise original songs which are always very well received. The latest release from Whistle features twelve catchy original songs which demonstrate not only their songwriting skills, but also the diversity of influences that gives them their unique sound.

Those influences range from The Avett Brothers through Flatt & Scruggs to Johnny Cash, Old Crow Medicine Show, Lumineers, George Jones, Louvin Brothers, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, so many more.

Whistle’s most recent album 'Seven Long Years’ was launched in April 2025 and is available on whistle.bandcamp.com
